Companies Pledge to Train Military Veterans and Spouses in Tech and More

Veterans are some of the most highly-skilled and trained leaders in the workforce. However, when transitioning out of the military, it can be difficult for veterans to find civilian careers that match their personality and skill set.

To address this issue as well as the unemployment rate for veterans, 15 companies have pledged to train 60,000 military veterans and spouses in technology, aerospace and telecommunications over the next five years.

“As a reservist, it’s hard to find opportunities that match the skills and abilities I have gained in the military,” said Jason Wells, staff Sergeant in the Mississippi Army National Guard. “These companies investing in military job training are helping many veterans find civilian jobs in which they can be successful.”

Among the companies investing in this job training are Amazon, Microsoft, Siemens and USAA. In particular, Amazon will provide 10,000 transitioning military members or spouses with training and certifications for cloud computing skills.

“One of our focuses is to attract military talent for our classes,” said Robert Montague, Executive Director of Tech901. “We believe they are highly capable and with these tech certifications will be able to find suitable civilian careers in the Memphis area.”
