At the end of our first summer session, Tech901 hosted a resume review and job fair for our students at the University of Memphis' FedEx Institute of Technology. At Tech901, one of our goals is preparing students with the knowledge to pass certification exams to grow the tech talent here in Memphis.
With 91% of employers preferring IT candidates with certifications, the resume prep and job fair further equips each student for the next step in their career. Additionally, we want to arm them with soft skills to take on their IT job search to perform at the demanding pace of the technology field.
During the resume review, Willie Burley from Southwest Tennessee Community College, as well as Tech901 Lead Instructor, Briahna Chambers, reviewed students’ resumes. The advisors gave advice and resume edits, as well as practical tips for future job interviews. With the helpful feedback, the students were better prepared for the upcoming Tech901 Job Fair.
On Wednesday, June 29, local businesses and organizations convened at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the campus of the University of Memphis to meet and chat with our CompTIA A+ class. Employers and friends of Tech901, Baptist Healthcare, ER2: Electronic Responsible Recyclers, ProTech, VACO Technologies, Ingram Micro, ServiceMaster were all present. Also, The FedEx Institute of Technology and The Graduate School at the University of Memphis offered information about the upcoming programs on campus. Coinciding with Tech901’s mission, these companies and organizations strongly recognize the need for training and growing the technology talent in Memphis. It was a great event for students and employers alike! We look forward to many connecting more Tech901 students with tech jobs in the future.
