During the time Martin Luther King, Jr. organized his Civil Rights Movement endeavors, he worked tirelessly towards improving the conditions for African-Americans, females and all minorities in six particular areas: poverty, wage discrimination, housing, education, justice and peace.
The MLK50: The Next Step Forward grant program was created by the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Earlier this year, the Foundation issued a call for applications for six $25,000 grants, one to be awarded in each of six areas, mentioned above, that reflect pillars outlined by Dr. King as the focus of his social justice work during the Civil Rights Movement.
From 43 grantee applicants, Tech901 was chosen as the recipient of the Better Jobs – Higher Wages grant in support of our mission to develop and train Memphians in technology, a field with higher earning potential, many unfilled jobs, and severely lacking in diversity. The Community Foundation grant will fund one class of 48 students for IT Foundations, our 12-week course offered for $180 per student, a significant reduction in cost and time barriers compared to for-profit courses. If you'd like to learn more and donate to support this project, click here to visit Tech901’s page on the Community Foundation’s website.
With this support, we are able to continue our training and advocation for Memphis!
